A brief review of TV Series I've watched in the first quarter of 2025
Title: The IT Crowd
Total Episodes: 25 Best Episode: The Work Outing
Plot: The comedic misadventures of a large company's basement-dwelling IT department consisting of Roy, Moss and IT illiterate relationship manager Jen.
I think The IT Crowd will firmly remain one of my go-to comedy series. The show is excellent, and the cast of Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayaode, and Katherine Parkinson work together brilliantly, with the additions of Chris Morris and Matt Berry as their bosses bringing about even more laughs in different ways.
The comedy comes thick and fast, with each episode featuring absolutely bizarre scenarios that build to some incredible pay-offs.
The show is incredibly well-written, and each episode stands out for its own inventive tale, whether that be Jen becoming the company Fredo, or Roy trying to wrap his head around how his girlfriend's parents died in a fire at a sea parks. If you haven't set aside time to watch this brilliant comedy series, then you owe it to yourself to check it out as soon as you can.
Title: Breaking Bad
Total Episodes: 62 Best Episode: Ozymandias
Plot: A chemistry teacher is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and turns to a life of drug manufacturing alongside his former student to secure his family's future.
For those unaware, Breaking Bad follows Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who turns to meth production to help generate money to fund his cancer treatment and leave money behind for his family. From then on, he gets mixed up in the dark world of drugs and transforms into a meth kingpin.
The transformation of Walter White is handled amazingly, and his bond with ex-student/partner Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) is a real draw of the show. Not to mention the continued introduction of new characters that are just as great, such as Gustavo Fring and Saul Goodman.
The show is incredibly well-paced. So much so, it's like watching a ticking time bomb slowly coming to a head. Packed with plenty of stand-out moments from train heists to cartel confrontations, which are just as raw and tense as the inter-character drama. There are plenty of heated moments and scenes that'll leave your jaw dropped and pull you in even more than you thought possible.
Breaking Bad is one of the best TV series out there; there's just no two ways about it, and it will likely remain on that pedestal for years to come. It's an excellently crafted show, with a killer pace and a bucket load of standout episodes that deliver nail-biting tension that draws you into Walter White's damaged world.
Title: Knuckles
Total Episodes: 6 Best Episode: The Warrior
Plot: Knuckles teaches Deputy Wade Whipple the ways of an Echidna warrior so he can win a bowling tournament.
Knuckles was something of a curiosity piece, I decided to dip into. I had seen the previous two Sonic films and found them fairly entertaining, with the third film getting similar praise. After I got around to watching Sonic 3, I was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining it was, so I decided to take the small leap into Paramount's Knuckles show.
I can safely say that after watching every episode, I was underwhelmed. The show follows Knuckles and Wade as he helps train Wade to be a warrior and conquer a bowling tournament, all the while ex G.U.N. agents try to track down and capture Knuckles. It's a pretty odd plot, and the combination of Wade and Knuckles doesn't work as much as it could have, with Wade feeling a bit too goofy to head the series.
The first episode starts well enough with Knuckles trying to adapt to Earth life alongside Sonic, Tails and co, but as soon as he sets out on his quest with Wade, the series begins its descent downwards. It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either. There were certainly some odd episode choices. That being said, the plot would likely entertain younger fans of Sonic, but as a standalone series, it's not very entertaining, and I don't think I'll recall it in a couple of months.
