In case you didn't know, Jennifer's Body is a VERY 2000s film. One that focuses on the friendship of Needy (Amanda Seyfried) and her popular best friend Jennifer (Megan Fox). In a classic horror movie move, Jennifer becomes possessed by a demon that needs to feed on boys to keep herself healthy and at full strength. Sure, it's not a wholly original premise, and it may feature some dialogue that gives you the Ick (Yes, I'm talking about "You give me such a wettie."). Still, I couldn't help but think that the film has all this untapped potential, just ripe for a remake as a rather entertaining streaming series.

Option One - Keep The Same Baseline Plot

We follow the friends as they go to watch Low Shoulder's performance, the bar burns down, and the band members take Jennifer away to perform the ritual on her to grant them success, leaving Jennifer as a succubus.

The series will have more time to explore the friendship and attraction of Needy and Jennifer, allowing us a greater understanding of the characters and motives, while adding more weight to the pair's unfortunate finale. The added time means the series can explore the school and town's identity as well as the rise of the bands' success as they continue to gain traction in light of the town's events.

Ultimately, the series will still follow the same premise, with Needy not wanting to lose her friend as Jennifer clings to her while feasting on the boys of Devil's Kettle. I would change the band's fate, allowing Jennifer to devour them backstage at the school dance, as it feels fitting that she gets the chance at revenge.

The final clash will still take place as Needy rushes to defend her boyfriend and put an end to Jennifer. This time, she doesn't gain superpowers or go to jail, but there is a possibility that the band performed another sacrifice at the school before their deaths, or someone tried to resurrect Jennifer. Ultimately, though, there isn't the need for another season, so it can just remain as a self-contained one-off.

Option Two - Play On The Expected

The alternative take I'd go down is shifting the film's plot and showing everyone that both girls (Jennifer & Needy) become possessed. Except that's not actually the truth, what happens is Needy becomes possessed and kills Jennifer, throwing her down the 'endless hole' in Devil's Kettle without us knowing till a later reveal. Needy then becomes the Succubus but places all of this on Jennifer, much like The Narrator and Tyler Durden in Fight Club. During this time, she sees Jennifer visiting her in a room, missing from school, and popping up in other places to hide the fact that she's deceased.

Needy will be searching for ways to stop Jennifer and learn about what's happened to her, which would also link into why the boys she kills are all ones that show interest in Needy, helping to add weight to the revelation of Needy's fate. The change would offer a completely new option to explore in a follow-up series, seeing how Needy is coming to terms with her fate and who/what will rise to combat/help her.

Those are two quick pitches on ways that Jennifer's Body could be adapted into a series, to get the most out of the film's solid premise. What are your thoughts? And would you watch a Jennifer's Body series?
