MSF's Picks for the best movie, game & TV series released in 2025 (from what I watched/played)

2025 was a bit of a backwards year here at Matt Sees Films. Despite venturing to the cinema frequently, I happily replayed plenty of old games instead of trying many of the heavily praised games of the year. As a result, I've had a limited experience with 2025's media, although I've enjoyed enough to rustle together an obligatory 'Best of' post, and cherry-pick my favourite film, game & TV show.
Best Film- F1

Despite not being the most athletic person out there, I love a good sports film. For me, F1 was that film. I'm not going to deny that F1 plays out exactly as you'd expect, hitting all the notes of your typical sports film, but that doesn't matter when it nails so many of them.
Brad Pitt does a great job anchoring the film as the charismatic but cocky Sonny Hayes, as he helps rescue his old friends' struggling race team, APXGP. The film's writing is solid and well-acted, but the real stars of the show are the movie's exceptional soundtrack and pulse-pounding race sequences.
Everything in this movie is great, and it comes together to deliver an exciting film that I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to any racing or film fan out there.
Best Video Game - Split Fiction

As I mentioned earlier, I never got around to playing many new games in 2025, but that didn't stop Hazelight Studios' It Takes Two follow-up from blowing me away. Split Fiction is an astounding game, there's no question about it. I loved It Takes Two, and Split Fiction improves on so much of that, making for an essential co-op experience I didn't want to end.
Split Fiction clashes the worlds of Sci-Fi writer Mio & Fantasy writer Zoe into an ever-changing and vibrant playground for you to experience. The game handles really well, and the gameplay is in a state of constant flux with new skills and environments regularly introduced. Mio & Zoe are excellent leads, and the overall story is an entertaining one to play through as you uncover more about the corrupt business and backstories of its characters.
Split Fiction isn't just an essential co-op experience; it's an amazing game in its own right, and one I'm looking forward to replaying this year.
Best TV Series - Peacemaker Season 2

I don't tend to watch all that much TV, but there are some shows I need to watch as soon as possible. I thought Season 1 of Peacemaker was great, and I had eagerly been awaiting the follow-up. Thankfully, it did not disappoint.
John Cena does an excellent job as Cristopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, as does the rest of the cast. Vigilante/Adrian Chase (Freddie Stroma) once again brings plenty of laughs with his childlike innocence, whilst Cena & Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt bring more emotional stakes to the table.
The plot is great, and despite being another multiverse tale, it felt both fresh and enjoyable to watch unfold. Although the finale wasn't the most satisfying, it doesn't detract from the very entertaining journey before it, with Gunn delivering yet another great piece of superhero entertainment.
So there you have it. Matt Sees Films Best of 2025. Did you manage to watch/play many of 2025's offerings? Or, like me, did you enjoy reruns & replays of the past?
