The Free-to-play fighter launches on PlayStation 5 & XBOX Series X January 20th 2026

2XKO, formerly known as Project L, was announced in 2019 during Riot Games' 10th anniversary celebration. Since then, many League of Legends & fighter fans (myself included) have been eagerly awaiting to see what Riot Games would bring to the genre.
Fast forward to 2025, and the game has already been released on PC through Early Access on October 7th, with the console/official release scheduled for 2026. Following the months of Early Access enjoyment PC players have had with the game, 2XKO finally got a console release date during the 2025 Game Awards, when it was given a January 2026 release window, accompanied by a 'Sneak Peek Console Trailer'
Now we know that 2XKO will launch on current-gen consoles on January 20th 2026. The news broke a little earlier than Riot planned, thanks to a new trailer on their official YouTube channel uploading ahead of schedule. The video has since been shifted from public to private, though footage of the trailer has been captured and re-uploaded by eagle-eyed fans.
At the time of writing, 2XKO boasts a roster of 11 fighters, which will soon be bumped up to 12 when the game launches on consoles alongside the new season and 12th fighter, Caitlin. Riot has promised that an additional five fighters will arrive each year, taking the total roster up to 16 by the end of 2026.

The game has received a positive reception from fans and gamers alike on PC, but it remains to be seen how well the Free-to-Play fighter will perform on consoles when it launches next month.
