The Latest Superman Trailer Officially Has Me Sold

I was already won over, but the latest trailer has me convinced Gunn's Superman will be a hit.

I'm a big fan of Superman. I'm by no means the biggest out there, and there'll be many more people who know plenty more about the character than I do. What that character represents and the versions I've grown up with, he's always been a beacon of hope, committed to doing what's right, having the power of a God with the humanity and morals of the best of us.

As much as I enjoyed Man of Steel and loved Hans Zimmer's masterful score, the movie ultimately felt dark, gritty and too devoid of colour for a bright hero. I loved the idea of James Gunn helming the project, and with his past work on other superhero projects like Peacemaker, The Suicide Squad and of course, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, it was going to be hard for me not to have faith. The footage released so far has looked promising, but the latest trailer gave us our biggest glimpse at the movie with Clark/Superman in action and the world around them.

The opening interview scene presents all we need to know about Gunn's Superman, with Clark shifting his voice between personas being an elegant touch. The trailer also gives us a better look at the movie and the possible storyline it may follow without revealing too much (I still don't forgive you, Terminator Salvation and Oblivion trailers). Better yet, there's even more Krypto being one good boy, more shots of other characters in action and another chance to hear what is shaping up to be a tremendous Superman score.

The vibe of the movie feels on point for Superman. The established hero splitting public opinions, with citizens helping him out whilst others jeering him, helps make the world and his impact feel all the more real. It's bright and colourful, and the character designs and settings look like a comic book artist's imagination painted against the real world.

Ultimately, Man of Steel felt like a gritty Superman movie grown in The Dark Knight's shadow, whilst Gunn's Superman looks like it's shaping up to be a bright and light-hearted Superman, paving the way for what will hopefully be a bright new era for a cinematic DC Universe.
