Given that A Minecraft Movie became one of 2025's most successful movies at the Box Office, and was based on the best-selling video game of all time, a sequel being greenlit probably comes as a surprise to no one.
The film wasn't the biggest hit with critics, but it certainly found its market, surpassing its $150 million production cost with ease. Warner Bros. and director Jared Hess have both been relatively quiet on sequel updates, but a new poster of pickaxes displayed as roman numerals was posted to A Minecraft Movie's X page, which also confirmed the sequel's release date to be July 23rd 2027.
The video game adaptation starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa ended its theatrical run with $957 million, just shy of the $1 billion mark, and the year's third-highest-grossing movie worldwide. Only beaten by Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, and Beijing Enlight Pictures' animated fantasy sequel, Ne Zha 2.
Are you excited by the prospect of another Minecraft adventure on cinema screens? And what did you think of this year's adaptation? Let me know in the comments below.
