Originally slated to release this weekend (October 24th), New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. decided to shift the popular fighter's cinematic sequel to May 15th, 2026, following positive fan response and the potential to boost its box office earnings by releasing it in the summer box office window.

However, that plan has changed ever so slightly for New Line Cinema & Warner Bros., with the studios bringing the release date forward a week to May 8th 2026. The new release date gives the film some breathing space before Disney's latest Star Wars project, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, which releases on May 22nd.

Mortal Kombat II will still face competition from the likes of Hugh Jackman-led comedy, The Sheep Detectives, which launches the same weekend, as well as The Devil Wears Prada 2 dropping the week prior, but the blood-soaked action of Mortal Kombat II should see it stand out, and hopefully live up to the hype its early trailers have presented.

Until then, we can satisfy our combat cravings with the previous movies via streaming or hopping back into Mortal Kombat 1 for some fighting game excellence.
